The Somer Valley commentary team welcomed a new recruit, when they covered Welton Rovers U18s match against a Bristol City Youth side, on Sunday, 17th July.
Lewis Gale, a pupil at Midsomer Norton Primary School, won a creative writing competition at the school to earn the right to join Ian Nockolds and Bob Allard for the sport broadcast.
Lewis, a Plymouth Argyle fan, acted as a guest summariser, supporting usual contributor and Welton match reporter, Bob Allard. Lewis also had a little help from his dad, Kevin.
The game itself, like the broadcast, provided the impressive crowd at West Clewes with a taste of what the future might have in store for both clubs.
Ian Nockolds commented: "It will be interesting to see just how many of the players go on to play First Team football for their respective sides. There was some real talent on show for both teams, so if the FA are serious about the future of our national game, it's vital that we coach and progress the next generation of players, whether they play professionally or for the honour of their local town.
"I hope Lewis enjoyed the part he played in our commentary and we've inspired him to get more involved with our sports coverage at Somer Valley FM. As the many volunteers at all our local clubs will tell you, playing is only one of the many ways that people of all ages can get involved and stay involved in football."
At the end of the broadcast, Lewis was treated to a kickabout on the Welton pitch with First Team Manager, Nick Beaverstock.
Bristol City won the friendly 3–0. The commentary is available to listen again through the radio station website: http://www.somervalleyfm.co.uk">www.somervalleyfm.co.uk.
