The match results were fairly even this week. Interestingly, the Men’s Firsts were playing a Redland team highly likely to be relegated to the Second Division, and the Seconds were playing a Sodbury team highly likely to be promoted to the First Division!
This helps to explain the results, and puts the Firsts into a strong promotion position, but the Seconds into relegation territory.
Despite a 10–0 win, the Thirds are still struggling to avoid the drop, and their last two matches will be key. The Fourths appear to have squandered a chance of promotion, but good wins in the last two matches will do it for them.
The Ladies’ Firsts had a strong week at Lansdown with a 10–0 win, which will keep them at the top of Division Two, before a ‘crunch match’ next week against Bath, who are just behind us in the table.
The Ladies’ Seconds had a close match at Backwell, just losing out by one set overall for a 4–6 loss. They are still likely to be promoted with a good margin between them and third positioned Kings.
The Thirds had their ‘crunch match’ this week against Saltford, who are just above us in the Division. Unfortunately, we lost 10–0 to a very strong team. The last couple of matches will decide if we stay in the Division or get relegated.
The Fourths had a very strong 10–0 win over top-of-the-division, David Lloyd Westbury, which hopefully keeps us out of the relegation zone.
