Mendip put in an exemplary performance on Saturday to seal a convincing win at home to Old Bristolians.
The scene was set early on when Captain, Lucy Hemings, capitalised on a penalty corner opportunity with a fine shot which rattled the Old B’s backboard. Maddison Collins soon added to the lead with two goals in quick succession; first a super solo effort and then a shot that deflected high off an opponenent’s stick and beyond the Old B’s keeper.
Mendip continued to dominate possession and strong running through midfield by Lucy Davis released Amy McGowan, whose great shot made it 4–0. Just before half-time, centre forward, Sharon Watts, made it five with a well-struck effort of her own.
Sarah Pearce added her name to the score sheet early in the second half, working hard to get onto Collins’ through-ball to fire home. Ella Constable put the icing on the cake with two late goals; her first after a strong run through the centre and her second from a well-worked penalty corner to make it eight.
The player of the match award was shared by Lucy Davis and Ella Constable.
