A YOUNG boy has been nominated for an award after he was able to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Alfie Porter, 11, received a nomination for the Bristol Young Heroes Award in the Fundraising Hero category after raising over £3000 for The Toy Appeal.

The Toy Appeal is a registered charity that looks to provides a sack of toys at Christmas to children from the ages of two years old to 17 years old, who are living in poverty.

The money that Alfie has raised has helped over 100 struggling families have a Christmas dinner over the holiday season and for the children to have presents to open on the day.

Alfie has been fundraising since he he was nine years old, and has been expanding the ways in which started with a 5k run, which then expanded into doing a 5k run every day for five days in 2024.

Part of Alfie’s help with The Toy Appeal is that he delivers presents to some of the families, which brings him plenty of joy as he is able to see what he is providing to the families he’s helping, and the joy that it brings to them.

His drive to help other families around Christmas began when his family sponsored another family, where they provided for three boys a Christmas dinner and a gift bag of presents.

Alfie wanted to see more children experience similar joys over Christmas and that is when he would begin looking to raise money through The Toy Appeal.

His fundraising efforts will continue into this year as well, as he plans to do a fundraising event at the end of September, where he will be walking around the Pen y Fan three times in a 36 hour period.
