After thirty years of running and an incredible fundraising total of £120,000 over those years for local charities and causes close to her heart, Radstock’s Jean Meredith has added another to her tally; this time donating £707 to be shared between her church, Trinity Methodist Radstock, and local community interest company, Conductive Education Bristol, which helps children with their mobility.
Jean, who is a member of Somer AC, ran the Great South Run in Southsea, Portsmouth, to collect the latest total, with generous donations from family, friends and customers at her salon, Jean’s Hairdressers, in Radstock.
Half of the money will go to Trinity Radstock, which will go towards general running costs, with the other half going to a local session held at High Littleton for Conductive Education, which began as a pilot project in January 2014. Jean was inspired to donate to them after meeting little Henry Latchem, on the local cyclepath, where she runs with her husband, Roy. Henry’s mother, Lara, is pictured above.
Cycling on his three-wheel trike, Henry could once only ride for around fifteen minutes, but with hard work and determination, he can now ride his bike for over an hour. He attends the outreach service at High Littleton, which runs an educational framework to develop the motor, cognitive and social skills of individuals with motor disorders. The group also hopes to extend services for teens and young adults.
As she presented the cheque, Jean said: “I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who has sponsored me. I think I’ve run around eighty marathons and lost count of the half marathons that we have taken part in over thirty years!”

They have also been supported locally by the Ralph and Irma Sperring charity and Farmborough Floral Art Group, who have raised funds for them.
