A RESIDENT from Kingfisher Lodge home in Saltford has been honoured for an exceptional 60 years of service to the University of Bath.
Richard Mawditt joined the University planning team before a single brick was laid and spent the first three decades contributing to its development.
He later became a Professor of University Management and Administration inspiring generations of students and colleagues through his teaching and leadership at home and in developing countries around the world, especially in Africa.
Richard was previously appointed an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to higher education in the 1989 New Year’s Honours.
Last week, the University’s vice-chancellor, professor Phil Taylor, visited the care home to present Richard with a commemorative president’s medal in recognition of his remarkable dedication and lasting contribution to the University community.
The special occasion was attended by Richard’s family who gathered to celebrate not only a lifetime of service, scholarship, and commitment but also his 90th Birthday the day before.
The presentation was a fitting tribute to a man whose work has helped shape the University of Bath and whose achievements continue to inspire those around him.
“I feel so honoured to receive this award but also so grateful and proud of the years I spent at Bath University, I really have enjoyed my career,” said Richard.
General Manager Claudia Popescu said: “We are so pleased Richard had this celebration at our home; Richard is a valued and respected member in our community here at Kingfisher Lodge.
“Many residents and Staff congratulated him and couldn’t wait to see his medal of achievement.
“Being so close to Bath we can only wonder how many people’s lives locally he has impacted with his work at the university as well as the countless lives all across the world.”
