ST BENEDICT’S Catholic Primary School welcomed PCSO Will to the school this term to help promote road safety.

The visit saw the PCSO monitoring vehicle speeds outside the school while engaging with the local community about the importance of creating a safe environment for pupils, families and staff travelling to and from school each day.

The initiative forms part of the school's ongoing commitment to improving road safety and ensuring students can travel to school as safely as possible.

Alongside the visit, the school has confirmed it is working with local MP, Anna Sabine and Bath & North East Somerset and Somerset Council to explore the introduction of a pedestrian crossing on the Stratton-on-the-Fosse Road.

The school hopes the proposed crossing will further improve safety for pupils and families crossing the busy road and will continue to keep the community updated as discussions progress.

Headteacher at St Benedict's Catholic Primary School, Ellen Croker, said: “The safety of our pupils, families and staff is always our highest priority.

"We were delighted to welcome PCSO Will to the school to help reinforce the importance of safe driving around schools and thank him for giving his time to support our community.

“We are also pleased to be working with our local MP and the council to explore longer-term improvements, including a pedestrian crossing, which would make a real difference to the safety of everyone travelling to and from St Benedict’s.”

CEO of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, Helen Taylor, said: “Schools have an important role to play in helping children develop safe habits, but keeping young people safe is something that requires the whole community to work together.

“We are proud of the proactive approach St Benedict's has taken and grateful to everyone who is working with the school to improve road safety for pupils and families.”
