Police are appealing for help to track down a motorcycle rider and pillion who left a horse rider injured in the road.

The incident happened at about 9.15 p.m. on Wednesday, 11th July in Hoare Lane, Kilmersdon. A horse was spooked by two young people riding a green off-road motorbike, who then left the scene of the incident.

Thankfully the horse rider, a 23-year-old woman, was riding with a friend who was able to call for help. She was taken by ambulance to the Royal United Hospital, Bath where she was treated and later released.

Avon and Somerset Police’s Mounted Section support the British Horse Society’s ‘Dead? Or Dead Slow’ campaign to make other road users aware of what they should do when they encounter horses:

• Slow down to 15mph when passing a horse

• Be patient, don’t sound your horn or rev your engine

• Pass as wide as you can – at least a car’s width where possible

• Drive away slowly

Horse riders are encouraged to:

• Wear high visibility clothing

• Be alert and aware of your surroundings and environment

• Use clear and decisive hand signals to warn other road users of your intentions

• If you are riding an experienced horse, make sure you are accompanied by an experienced rider and horse

• Be courteous and acknowledge considerate drivers
