Avon Fire & Rescue Service has been recognised with a Bronze Award for dementia awareness at the BRACE conference in November.

Presented on behalf of the Bristol Dementia Action Alliance, the bronze award AF&RS received, recognises the Service as a proud dementia aware organisation.

As part of the Dementia Safeguarding Scheme, AF&RS – alongside other emergency service partners – have created a wristband to help protect and safeguard those vulnerable people with dementia in our society. AF&RS continue to offer these life-saving wristbands as a part of a Home Fire Safety Visit.

Nikki Rice, Prevention and Protection Manager, said: “We’re very proud to have been recognised as a dementia aware organisation, and we are passionate about improving our services not only for those with dementia, but everyone living in our community.

“I’d encourage anyone concerned about a family member, loved one, or someone you care for, to get in touch with us today. A person does not need to have a diagnosis of dementia for us to issue a wristband, if you have a concern, we will provide the life-saving wristbands to those in need.”

These bands are free of charge and a visit can be booked via www.avonfire.gov.uk/our-services/home-fire-safety-visits or by calling Avon Fire & Rescue Service on 0117 926 2061.
