POLICE have warned against entering unoccupied buildings after receiving reports of youths entering one in Peasedown St John.
Bath Neighbourhood Policing issued a statement on May 10 informing local residents that Radstock Neighbourhood Policing Team had received calls about youths entering an unoccupied building on Bath Road.
They warned that doing so may have risks legally and to the safety of individuals and the neighbourhood.
A spokesperson from Bath Neighbourhood Policing said: “We ask parents and carers to have a conversation with their children about the dangers of entering unoccupied buildings. It’s vital that young people understand the risks involved - not only in terms of their personal safety, but also the potential legal consequences.
“Legal Implications: Entering the building could lead to legal action from the property owner. This is more than just trespassing—it also involves criminal damage and vandalism.
“Safety Risks: The building may be structurally unsound, and could contain dangerous materials. Exploring such spaces puts everyone at significant risk.
“Neighbourhood Safety: This isn’t just an issue for the property owner. When youths are found in the building, it’s not only about their safety but also about maintaining the overall safety and security of the community.”
