Midsomer Norton Town Council are very disappointed to report continued vandalism at the Town Park.
On the weekend of the 25th of October, a new security gate and gateposts were dislodged. Witnesses report seeing a large group of youths working together to deliberately damage the gate. A lock from the gate is missing. The new feature walls at the entrance of the Town Park were also badly damaged, with the topper stones being dislodged.
This area of the Town Park is still under construction and Councillors, Town Council staff and residents have enjoyed watching it develop over the last few months and are proud of this new community space. It is heartbreaking to see the project being sabotaged. This is not the first incident. The Council reported last month that stones on the “bridge” over the revised watercourse were dislodged. They were not stolen, rather tipped into the pond. New Leaf have been working with MAC Groundworks to make the stones more tamper-resistant but repairing this senseless destruction costs money and is so unnecessary.
The Council have CCTV footage of the latest incident and are working with the police to investigate the damage and the size of the group involved in the vandalism.
Huge thanks to the witness for reporting this incident, and to the Councillor and Town Warden who sought to make the area safe before repair work could be done.
