This spring, Westfield found itself without a flowers contractor and at short notice, the only means of putting on a floral display was with the help of volunteers.
We first met Margaret when she offered to help with the voluntary planting of
daffodil bulbs the previous autumn. Little did any of us know at the time that this was just the start.
This year, from the spring until the autumn, Margaret has worked tirelessly as a
volunteer alongside Cllr Diana Cooper, giving three or more evenings a week to planting, feeding, weeding, watering, deadheading and generally caring for the entire flower display in Westfield.
This is not just a commitment in time, it is also physically demanding work – for example, carrying watering cans to four circular beds and three planters from the taps which are a good distance away, often for over an hour, three times a week.
And, always, it was done with goodwill and a smile! Thank you, Margaret.
