I was employed as a commercial photographer at Mardon Packaging on Norton Hill in Midsomer Norton.

Our Managing director there was a staunch royalist and heard that the Queen, on her Silver Jubilee visit to Bath, was travelling back to London past his house on the Kelston Road to avoid the crowds and asked if I could get a shot of her going by, no pressure then!

I waited with bated breath as the Queen’s chauffeur drove towards Oldfield Girls School, and to my amazement, she signaled the driver to stop as she spotted the schoolgirls waving a banner and flowers. I could not believe it!

I was across the road like a shot with my 35mm camera and about sixty schoolgirls following suit.

This is the picture I was lucky to get.

Now, we all know who the couple are in the foreground, but can anybody recognise the pupil from Oldfield School in the background with a camera and looking on admiringly in 1977.

I would really be interested to find out. Brian Hall
