After two years of concerns over an unsafe wall in Midsomer Norton High Street, between Docky’s and the Greyhound, it has been rebuilt in the last ten days.

“On behalf of the town, I’d like to thank the owners for doing this work. Not only has the landlord had the wall completely rebuilt, but the style and character of a highly visible section of the town’s traditional streetscape has been preserved through the use of natural stone for future generations to enjoy,” said Town Mayor, Paul Myers.

The wall, believed to have been built in the mid-19th century, retains over seven feet of ground behind it. Failed pointing, water seepage and vibration from traffic meant that the wall had increasingly bulged in recent years. Sited as it is alongside one of the main pedestrian walkways into the town, a number of residents had expressed safety concerns.
