There’s even more Art this week as the Midsomer Arts Festival powers into its second week. Hundreds have already flocked to see the range of vibrant exhibitions, talks, concerts and films as well as joining in the various workshops across the town.
On Wednesday lunchtime there is a very special Schools Concert at St John’s Church, where young musicians and singers will be showcasing their talent. This will be followed on Friday, 24th June at 7.30 p.m. at the Town Hall by what is expected to be a sold-out production of Madame Butterfly by the acclaimed Bath Opera. A few returns may be available on the door.
Finally, the closing ceremony of the Festival takes place on Saturday, 25th June, where a scratch orchestra will perform music from films, alongside exhibitions of art and presentations to those who have taken part in competitions and activities. Entry is free and all are welcome.
The display of artworks around the town are still continuing in shop windows and public places. Art trail guides can be picked up from the Town Hall, library and other venues. For details, ring: 07903 951168.
Speaking about the success of the second Arts Festival for the Town, organiser, Martyn Plant, said: “The best thing about the festival is seeing people being creative and enjoying making art in all its different forms. We had a fantastic song-writing workshop with Paul Armfield on Sunday afternoon, alongside a ukulele workshop with JC Grimshaw, and lots of children and young people took part in the art and craft workshops on Saturday.
“Before the festival, lots of individuals, community groups and organisations were involved in making art, such as the large petals, and the contributions from all these people have made the festival the success it is. I hope people are enjoying all the different events we are running during the week.”
