Exciting plans are being finalised for Midsomer Norton Fayre 2018, including the fifth annual Town Show, which will be held next Saturday, 14th July, from 12 noon until 5 p.m. in Gullock Tyning, near the Sports Centre in Midsomer Norton. There will also be lots of activities in the Somer Centre and the new Town Park.

What better time to come together and celebrate all that is great about our community than for an event established 770 years ago with the granting of a Royal Charter to hold a Fayre by King Henry III?

Once again, the event will start with the Duck race in the High Street, followed by the Maypole Festival outside the Somer Centre, which sees hundreds of local school children taking part. This will be followed by other community group displays and attractions throughout the afternoon. Some of the highlights include Puppet shows, balloon modelling, bouncy castles – including an inflatable helter-skelter – Punch & Judy, performances from the Midsomer Norton and Radstock Silver Band, workshops and much, much more.

The Town Show will celebrate local creativity with a range of art, craft, cooking and horticultural entries. It’s not too late to prepare your entries and bring them along on the evening of Friday, 13th or morning of Saturday, 14th, simply check the website for entry form and details. As usual, inside the Somer Centre will be displays of Art and Photography, as well as the popular Tea Rooms with delicious cakes and sandwiches. This year’s special guest at the event is BBC Somerset radio presenter, Simon Parkin.

In the Town Park there will also be a Children’s Activity marquee, as well as a chance for everyone to give their comments and ideas to the Town Council on how this fantastic new green space could be designed to meet the needs of the whole community.

This year’s Fayre, as well as the music event, M-Fest, being held in the High Street, is organised by the Midsomer Norton Community Trust. For full details on the events visit: www.midsomernortoncommunitytrust.co.uk or phone: 01761 419133.
