PLANS for a major new housing development in Midsomer Norton have moved a step closer after Persimmon Homes Wessex was granted detailed planning approval for 180 new homes.
The developer will build homes on the site in the south of the town, to the east of the Fosseway, which secured outline planning consent in February 2025. Construction at the development, to be known as Wellow Brook, is expected to begin in the coming months, with the first homes anticipated to be occupied by the end of 2026.
The scheme includes areas of green open space, including a central square with a children’s play area and a southern spur providing a community orchard, walking route and additional tree planting.
Fifty-four of the properties will be allocated to a local housing association as part of the development’s affordable housing provision, helping to meet local housing needs. The plans also include new pedestrian and cycle connections throughout the site to improve accessibility within the development and to nearby areas.
Commenting, Persimmon Homes Wessex Managing Director Seb Spiller, said: “We at Persimmon are very pleased to have been granted detailed planning as we seek to bring high-quality housing solutions for local people in the Somer Valley area.”
