Local artist and Rembrandt enthusiast Paul Hollins has been researching The Dutch Master and his methods and materials for years and has, created an approach which replicates Rembrandt’s.

The main difference being that Paul uses no paints with high toxicity, or any harmful solvents such as turpentine or white spirits.

In the course of his research he has also learned about Rembrandt’s evolution as painter.

He will be giving a series of ‘hands on’ short talks at Bath Artists’ Studios, over the week end of 22nd and 23rd of April, including a serious look at the ground breaking and world famous ‘Night Watch’ painting and revealing what it tells us.

Given the complexity of Rembrandt’s early work, the course will focus on his latter paintings which were ‘rougher’, but all the more powerful for it.

Each participant will produce a ‘Rembrandt like’ portrait painting using his techniques. (All materials supplied). In addition the group will collaborate to produce a half-size version of The Night Watch.
