On Saturday, 21st June, mother of two, Andrea Denham, who lives in Midsomer Norton, will be rising some 15,000 feet before skydiving down to the ground in support of Rotary charity, Worldwaterworks Ltd. Andrea will be one of some 260 skydivers aiming to break the current Guinness Book of Records world record of 251, set in Germany.
Andrea, a staff member at Farrington Park, hopes to raise at least £1,000 for the charity that sends Water-Survival Boxes to families displaced or lacking access to clean water following natural or man-made disaster. 800 boxes were sent to the Philippines last winter following the devastation caused by super typhoon Haiyan. In March, 200 boxes went to families whose homes had been lost following landslides and extensive flooding in Bolivia. In April, 200 boxes went to Chile for families without access to clean water following the earthquake and tsunami that struck the north of the country and at the end of May, 240 boxes were sent to Serbia, for families affected by the worst floods in 120 years. These four operations bring the total of boxes sent to some 35 disasters in 23 countries to 9,300 since the charity was set up in 2006.
On behalf of the trustees of the Rotary charity, Chairman, Tony Quinn, said: "We are delighted that Andrea is supporting us and we wish her well for her great day. Please support Andrea in her efforts to help provide clean drinking water to victims of disasters." Each Water-Survival Box comprises an Aquafilter water purification kit that will convert at least 18,000 litres of contaminated water into safe drinking water – supplying each member of a family of five with ten litres every day for a year. The box also contains a range of other essential items, including a kitchen set, health and hygiene items, basic shelter and simple tools and several other household items. These are the key items a family of five would need to begin to rebuild their lives.
Andrea is hoping for lots of sponsorship support, which can be for any amount from £5 upwards and, as a registered charity, Worldwaterworks Ltd can also benefit from gift aid which increases donations from taxpayers by another 25%.
Sponsorship donations can be made online through the website: http://www.worldwaterworks.org">www.worldwaterworks.org or by cheque made out to Worldwaterworks Ltd – sent to Andrea Denham, Farrington Park, Farrington Gurney, Bristol BS39 6TS
