Mendip Gliding Club is very proud to announce that Argentine Person is the youngest person to ‘go solo’ at the Club. Just fourteen days after her fourteenth birthday, she was allowed to take to the air alone. She successfully completed two solo flights on Sunday, 9th July.

Previously, the record was held by her brother, Ben, who was sent solo on 23 April, aged 15 years and seven months.

Both youngsters were introduced to gliding last year on a holiday in France with their parents and joined Mendip Gliding Club in October. They have flown almost every weekend that the weather permitted, through the winter and spring; no mean feat on a hill site with challenging conditions.

Argentine’s father, Pascal, said: “This is a great achievement for both my children and I am so proud of them. They have inspired and motivated me to start learning!”

Instructor, Jeff Green, said: “Argentine has given fantastic commitment to her learning and has been awarded with her first taste of solo flight. It was a pleasure to teach her.”

Argentine in her excitement said, “Next step will be the moon!”
