Artist, Simon Wellington, who lived in Midsomer Norton for much of his life, has donated a series of paintings to Dorothy House in an effort to raise funds for the charity.

Simon hand-delivered the stock to the Midsomer Norton High Street charity shop last Thursday.

Simon said: “I was asked to print most of this stock by Wells Cathedral, for when I exhibited there in a one-man show in the Chapter House. The paintings and greetings cards sold well in the Cathedral shop.

“We are in a much smaller property now, and we do not have the space to keep all the exhibition materials, so I felt it was best to give it to a good cause.

“Most of the images are of around the Midsomer Norton area, and by luck, I have captured a number of the backdrops used in the Poldark episodes. Holcombe Church has always been a popular painting, and the scene of many takes with the vicar in the popular programme.

“Also, I have painted the entrance to Wells Cathedral Chapter house, The Square and Wells moat house, which are on both cards and prints. There are lots of images of Midsomer Norton and surrounding villages as well, which seem to go down well with the local public.

“It was pleasing to see that before I had unloaded all of the boxes of stock, there were customers choosing prints and cards to buy! They hadn’t even been priced. Hopefully the entire collection will sell, and is worth over £1,000.”
