First Bus fares are to rise in Bath for travellers wanting to pay by cash, but will remain the same for those using the smart phone app.

As of 2nd April, the price of a single ticket in Bath’s inner zone will rise by 30p. A spokesperson said: “The reason we are increasing some of the fares, is because we want to encourage more people to use our mobile phone app. The app speeds up the running of the bus service, there is less waiting, less queueing and less chance for buses to run late. It is four times slower if people pay the bus driver with cash.”

Using the app will save passengers 50p on single fares once the cash price rises to £2.50. There will be a public roadshow at Bath Bus Station on Friday, 31st March from 3 p.m. to explain the changes.
