Avon Wildlife Trust has launched a wildlife gardening competition for the second year running.

The team want to see your blossoming balconies, small urban nature havens, sprawling back gardens, community patches, nature-friendly allotments, school outdoor spaces and everything in between.

Explaining their reason behind the competition, Avon Wildlife Trust said: “Wildlife gardening is a bloomin' great way to help nature near you thrive.”

This is all part of Team Wilder, a growing movement of people who notice and celebrate nature in their day-to-day lives, taking super-local actions to tackle the ecological and environmental crisis as a collective.

Team Wilder are looking for places and spaces that wildlife love to visit. They’re keen to see how entrants have used the space available to them to attract nature to the local patch.

Avon Wildlife Trust continued: “This is a chance to celebrate the small actions we are all taking, to inspire others to support wildlife where we live. Let’s get inspired reorientate what we think of as beautiful by sharing what your garden means to you.”

To enter the competition, you must:

  • Choose which category describes you and your garden best: Individual, Community, or Education/School.
  • Submit your garden by 31 July 2024, where you'll be asked a few questions and have the opportunity to upload a photo or video to represent your entry - which must have been taken in the last twelve months.

Everyone who enters the competition will receive a digital certificate as a big thank you for taking part and sharing what they do for nature.

Three finalists from each category will be selected by a panel of judges, who will receive a visit from the Team Wilder Community Ecologist to chat about their wildlife garden and get some expert advice. A professional photographer will also attend, to take pictures which will then be used for the final public vote.

Each category winner and the ‘outstanding’ entry will receive: a wildlife camera (NatureSpy WildCam2), wildlife gardening book, and £50 Grow Wilder voucher.

Finalist runners up will also receive a £25 Grow Wilder voucher.

All nine finalists will be visited by the Team Wilder Community Ecologist, to talk about their wildlife garden and offer expert advice. A photographer will also attend to take the photos which will then be used for the final public vote.
