LIBERAL Democrat MP for Bath, Wera Hobhouse, has called for urgent action in Parliament to address weaknesses she has encountered in the DBS system.

The Bath MP said constituents’ addresses had been falsely used by individuals unknown to them to obtain DBS checks.

A DBS check is a crucial background screening used by employers working with children and vulnerable adults.

The Leader of the House of Commons, Sir Alan Campbell, agreed with Mrs Hobhouse that the matter was “very concerning” and committed to raising the issue with the relevant minister.

The MP responded: “I am pleased the Government has agreed to look into this matter, and I hope urgent steps will now be taken to close this obvious weakness and restore public confidence in the system.”
