Radstock in Bloom are delighted to announce that Radstock has won the RHS Southwest in Bloom Ayre Cup trophy as the best in Small Town 2022 category.
Radstock In Bloom are a group of people who volunteer in the community; creating flora displays, litter picking and street weeding, the group work together with other organisations, schools, and traders.
Radstock in Bloom members, said : “We would like to thank everyone that has contributed towards winning the Ayre Cup for Radstock. The last time the town won a trophy in the RHS Britain in Bloom competition was nine years ago in 2013.
“There are far too many groups to list here, but they have been invited to join us at this years Radstock in Bloom Presentation on Friday, 21st October in Whisty Hall to receive their own certificates and awards.
“Special thanks must be given to some amazing partnerships; The Radstock Knitters for all your bunting, knitted insects, flowers and yarn bombing, you surprise with your talents every year. Thank you for the addition of the Bee-Hive in 2022.
“Thank you to Radstock Traders, who sponsor the maintenance of the hanging baskets throughout the season.
“This year we had a total of fifty hanging baskets in Radstock.
“Our thanks also goes to Radstock Town Council, who assist us both with funds through a Service Level Agreement (SLA) and support and advice with outside services and organisations.”
Next year, 2023, will mark the fiftieth anniversary since the closures of the mines. Radstock in Bloom will be commemorating the anniversary alongside the town in celebration of its foundations and heritage.
The group added: “We will also continue to increase our sustainability and awareness of our local environment to reduce our environmental impact.
“After a successful Peat-free trail this year, all of our 2023 hanging baskets will be Peat-free compost and follow a similar colour scheme to the Somerset miners’ flag of red, yellow, White and green.”
