Less than three in five A&E arrivals at Royal United Hospitals Bath seen within four hoursLocal charity, Age UK B&NES, is working with St John’s Primary School to organise intergenerational sessions, which aim to break down the barriers between the generations. Lorraine Fox, Age UK B&NES’ Day Centre Manager in Keynsham, said: “The idea came after we saw how much our members enjoyed annual carol singing visits by the primary school children.
It was so wonderful to see our members light up with the children around, we thought we could do more together.”
Age UK B&NES approached the primary school and they agreed to get involved with monthly activities. The sessions began with spring bulb planting on September 27th, when older people at the day centre worked alongside the children to plant bulbs in pots, ready for outside planting later in the year. Other monthly sessions planned include painting, knitting, war memories and school life – past and present.
Age UK B&NES’ Day Centre, based at Charlton House, Hawthorns Lane, Keynsham, runs on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. It offers a range of recreational and social activities, companionship, outings and talks. Contact: 01225 466135 for further information.
