Daring fundraiser, Callum Jennings, seventeen, from Tunley, put his fears aside to jump 10,000ft out of a plane on Saturday, 21st July, to help raise funds for the UK's leading cancer charity for children and young people, CLIC Sargent.

Callum, who completed treatment for bone cancer in December 2010, was among forty brave thrill-seekers who took on this ultimate adrenalin-pumping challenge, experiencing breath-taking views across Wiltshire and Oxfordshire at Redlands Airfield, Wanborough, near Swindon.

In tackling this 'Fright Flight', Callum raised an incredible £2,000 through the support of friends, family and Radstock Co-operative, where he works. Through collection buckets, staff at the Co-op raised £625.68 and a further donation from the Board of Directors of £250.

This fantastic amount has helped the skydive raise over £18,000 in total to support young cancer patients. No stranger to chasing thrills, Callum now adds this jump to his portfolio of extreme challenges completed in support of CLIC Sargent, including the charity's 200ft Spring Leap Abseil earlier this year where he raised a further £800.

Callum, who was cheered on by a number of friends and family and bravely joined in skydiving by family friends, Luke and Mark Brennan, took part to say thank you for the clinical, emotional and financial support the charity provided him and his family during his treatment. Callum explained: "My CLIC Sargent nurses provided a huge amount of emotional support and really helped cheer me up on days I felt very low. Raising money through the skydive is my way of giving something back and showing my gratitude for the help I received.

"It was a brilliant experience, one which I would definitely recommend to anyone. As soon as I landed, I wanted to do it again, straight away! I'm so glad I was given the opportunity to do it for such a great cause!"

CLIC Sargent provides clinical, practical and emotional support for children and young people with cancer and their families, from the point of diagnosis. All proceeds from the skydive will help CLIC Sargent provide vital services, including nurses and care professionals in hospital, grants to help families meet extra costs and free 'Home from Home' accommodation close to the main children's cancer centres.

Sophie Porfirio, Area Fundraising Manager, congratulated all those who were brave enough to take part: "I'm so proud of all those who took part in the 'Fright Flight' skydive to raise money for CLIC Sargent, they are far braver than me!

"This is the second consecutive year that we have run this skydive at Redlands Airfield, taking the grand total raised since last year to over £32,000, which will really make a difference to the lives of young cancer patients who we support. The £18,000 raised this weekend, for example, is enough to fund seventeen week's worth of CLIC Sargent nursing, just like that provided to Callum by CLIC Sargent nurses, Ali and Candy, to get him through his tough times.

"At the moment, we can only help two out of three children and young people who need our support, but I hope that more local residents will be inspired by incredible young people like Callum and take on an exciting challenge on behalf of CLIC Sargent.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Callum for his tremendous bravery and fundraising this year. A big thank you also goes out to all the staff and instructors at Redlands Airfield for keeping all of our participants so calm and giving them such an unforgettable experience."
