Well, you have come back out in force, dear readers, for our Mystery Photograph last week. There are many of you to name! We love hearing from you, so keep those answers and memories coming. If you have any photographs of your own, please feel free to share them with our readers, too.
We were, of course, in Westfield, with St Peter’s Church and the Clarks factory in the background.
Well done to Paul Hancock, Simon Chard, Winston Eyles, Frankie Ford, Keith and Loraine Pursey, Les Box and Hannah Selway, Nicola Hinge, Guy Hambleton, Simon Ball, Judith Bohan, Terry Reakes, Vince Gill, Jurgen and Bobby, Gilmour Jones, Alan Norris, Brian Broome, Jonathan Griffin, Judith Stanford, Charlie Moore, Christine Oatley, Elaine Bowen, Dan Clark, Andy Matthews, Sharon Crooks, Pauline King, Andrew Thayer, Shirley Steel, Allan Curtis, Nigel Gillard, Sue Granger, Ivor Davis, Chris Rhymer, Mike Ford, Rodney Gullick, Sally Bown, Beryl Rhymer, Lynne Waton, William Chamberlain, Jeff Parsons, Wendy White, Wayne Heatley, Ruth Horler, Ellen Maundrill, Terry Harris, James Barter, Mike Pope, Julie Newman, Neil Gillard, Norma Attwood, Andrea Potter and Martin Horler, who all guessed correctly.
Lynne Waton, Church-warden at St Peter’s Church, Westfield, tells us: “The church had to be demolished in October 1986, as it became structurally unsafe. The present church, on the same site, was consecrated in 1988, with artefacts from the old church prominent in the new building – including the large Rose window, clearly visible in the photo.
“We are holding our Summer Fete this Saturday, 22nd June from 11.30 a.m. The present church will be open for people to visit and copies of the Church History book will be on sale. If you have never been inside the church, it is your chance to have a look!”
So, if you think you can guess this week’s entry (top), and would like a mention, email: [email protected] or via Facebook or Twitter @MNRJournal.
Following on from our Competition to create the Mystery Photographs of the future, congratulations to the winners, chosen by local photographer, Will Nicol – John Rawlings for his photograph of Ammerdown, Dave Urch for Coleford and Mells, Eugene Kertzman for Midsomer Norton, Stuart Tibbs for Stanton Drew, Geoff Noad for Paulton, Mark Warner for Clutton and Sarah Brown for Clandown.
All winners have been invited to a reception at the museum on Saturday, 29th June. Well done, everyone!
