Dates have now been set by B&NES for the vital roadworks outside the Town Hall needed to enable a new route for Midsomer Norton Carnival to include the town that bears its name. The works will be carried out from 7 p.m., on Saturday, 25th October, to 7 a.m. on Monday, 27th October, and the same times from 1st – 3rd November, in order to keep disruption to local traffic and High Street trade to a minimum.
"After so many thought the return of carnival to Midsomer Norton's High Street was just another pipe dream, it is fantastic to finally reach the point where work is scheduled to adjust the traffic lights in time for Carnival Night on Monday, 10th November," said Paul Myers, Mayor of Midsomer Norton, "OK – it's cutting it fine, but enormous thanks are due to B&NES and the officers who have worked tirelessly to make a community's dream come true for 2014."
"Even with entries received so far, this year's procession is going to be a mile long and include a number of key clubs, such as Gemini, Huckyduck and Centurion.
This means that carnival will be bigger and better than ever before and justifies all the hard work over the last year in developing a new route to include not just Westfield, but also Midsomer Norton and Radstock," said Hazel Franklin, of the Midsomer Norton and District Carnival Association.
So, if you haven't submitted your entry for this year's carnival yet, fear not – there is time before the deadline of Tuesday, 30th September. For full details and an entry form, visit: http://www.illuminatedcarnival.co.uk">www.illuminatedcarnival.co.uk
