Midsomer Norton held ‘Carols by Laser Light’ last Friday evening, organised by Churches Together and the Somer Valley Chamber of Commerce. There were carols courtesy of the Midsomer Norton and Radstock Silver Band, local stalls and the switching on of the Christmas lights.

The town’s Christmas event has been scaled back over the last two years, with the difficulty being cost and organising two large events within weeks of one another – the main event being Carnival back in the High Street. Speaking to The Journal this week, Midsomer Norton’s Mayor, Paul Myers, said: “On behalf of the town, I would like to thank the Somer Valley Chamber and Midsomer Norton Churches Together for organising last week’s Christmas event.

“Very much focused on local children engaging with the traditional Christmas message, there was a nativity, fabulous decorations made for the town’s tree with its lights switched on.

“Looking to the future, it will be interesting to see how this format can be developed next year to complement the Carnival, which now takes place only two weeks before.”
