Members of Westfield Primary School's Gardening Club opened their new school garden on 9th July with a garden party for parents and pupils.
The Gardening Club, which began in November last year and has grown in popularity ever since, has been planting and tending to flowers and vegetables in the new garden and had some produce at the event to sell to parents.
The garden was officially opened by Ian Hamilton, Branch Manager at Buildbase, which was one of the companies that helped put the garden together. Stu Mitchard, the school caretaker, and several parents also took part in the creation of the new garden, Mr Bolton and Mr Lund built beds, while the planter was made and donated by Gavin Hancock.
Ian Hamilton said: "It was nice to be able to donate materials and be actively involved in the community."
The Gardening Club picked up two first prize certificates at the Midsomer Norton Fayre for garlic and sweetpeas.
Aside from taking up gardening, the pupils at Westfield School have been busy taking part in a number of activities. Year Five pupils won the regional final of
Formula One for Schools, attending the national final in Coventry, where they designed and raced a car.
The winning streak continues with the athletics, golf and gymnastic teams at the school, winning the local rounds of a school competition and participating in the regional finals at the University of Bath.
