People receiving community meals in Bath and North East Somerset are being advised about changes to the service. B&NES Council have issued a statement on the decision.

Currently, 140 people, who get a hot meal each day provided by Bath & North East Somerset Council, are being contacted to reassure them about a change of provider in the future.

A spokesperson for B&NES Council said: “The move aims to give greater choice in the way they get their meals.

“In future, the Council will not be the direct provider, as others can provide better value for money and because of increased local competition and fewer users of the service.”

Councillor Vic Pritchard (Conservative, Chew Valley South), Cabinet Member for Adult Care, Health and Wellbeing, said: “Under these changes people will not be left without a hot meal should they still want the service, it just means they will get their community meal from a different provider.

“It will mean greater choice for the people who rely on a meal being delivered each day.”

The council is working with Age UK B&NES, who will be visiting all the people using the service to talk about the meals service, their care needs and give advice on the options available to them.

Councillor Pritchard added: “This is all about ensuring we provide the right level of care because we are committed to supporting the most vulnerable.”
