A CHEW Valley volunteer has been singled out for celebration at the Bath & North East Somerset Council community awards this year.

The awards organised by the council and its partners received 86 nominations across five categories for individuals or organisations who make outstanding contributions to the community.

The chair’s Special Recognition Award was presented to Jackie Head at a ceremony on Monday, March 23, at The Guildhall in Bath.

Chair of the council, Cllr Liz Hardman on announcing the award said: “This award is given to someone who's actions quietly, but clearly stand out. Someone who consistently goes the extra mile for their community.

“I am delighted to recognise the winner of this award, whose contribution to the Chew Valley has been truly remarkable. She has consistently gone the extra mile, dedicating her time, passion and energy to champion affordable, reliable and sustainable public transport for local residents.

“She's also supported tree planting in the Chew Valley, East Harptree's Flower Show, the community shop, village hall, and arts hub amongst a few of her achievements.

“Her resilience, generosity, creativity and unwavering positivity make her a true role-model. So I'm delighted to present this award to Jackie Head.”

Cllr Hardman, added: “A huge congratulations to all of the winners of this year's awards and thank you for the tireless work that you do.

"This event is a powerful reminder of the need for us to support one another and connect with our local community. We can achieve so much when we work together.”

After the ceremony Jackie said: "It was a lovely and rather humbling event, seeing all the amazing volunteering that others are doing across B&NES.

“Whenever I volunteer there is always a team of people volunteering with me, so this award is for all of us.”
