A group of volunteers at a church in Peasedown St John dedicated four full days of their time last week to create a new car park for the church.
St John’s Church, located in Church Road, has seen a huge increase in usage over the past decade, meaning that more vehicles have needed to find somewhere to park.
Church Leader, Revd Matthew Street, said: “For many years, cars had been parking on a large piece of grass in the church grounds. This had resulted in tyre marks, muddy land and a lots of dirty vehicles!
“The church council made the decision sometime ago that we needed to make a serious investment in dealing with the parking issues connected with the use of the church and church hall.
“It’s because of this that we’ve spent £4,000 on new Eco-Park tiles – recycled toughened eco-friendly plastic and gravel that has created a beautiful, natural looking car park effect.
“This means that those visiting the church will now have a bigger, dedicated car park to use and less vehicles will need to park in nearby Church Road.”
The volunteer team was led by church member Nigel Vening.
St John’s Church is part of the ‘St J’s Group’ Anglican benefice led by Revd Matthew Street, which covers the parish churches of St John’s, Peasedown, St Julian’s, Wellow, St James’, Foxcote and St Julian’s, Shoscombe, and is named after their three patron saints.
