Clare Balding’s ‘Ramblings’ programme, recorded recently in Timsbury, will be broadcast today (Thursday 16th February), on BBC Radio 4 at 3pm and available afterwards on BBC Sounds.

Clare recorded the programme while walking with Peter Bradshaw, Larry Cunningham and Sue Fraser, the co-authors of the popular series of books of local walks.

“Clare was a delight to walk with”, explained Sue. “She was particularly keen to find out about the coal mining in the area, and surprised that there had been two mines in Timsbury itself”, she added.

“We were able to point out the sites of mines to Clare as we walked”, explained Larry, “and to highlight that one of the legacies of their existence is the dense web of footpaths in the area which we’ve explored in the books”.

Peter, Larry and Sue are co-authors of five books of local circular walks. The forthcoming release of a new edition of the Radstock book will bring the total up to 100 walks.

The five books are available from Health & More, The Hub and Canine Craze in Timsbury, Radstock Museum, Farmborough Community Shop and Oldfield Park Bookshop.

The programme will be aired again for early risers at 6:07 Saturday (18th February).
