The Inner Wheel Clubs of Midsomer Norton and Radstock and Chelwood Bridge recently joined forces with their two Rotary Clubs and the Rotary Club of Somer Valley. The Five Clubs, as this project is known, have raised £3,000 for local and popular charities.

The presentations of three £1,000 cheques were made at the Fromeway Inn, Writhlington on Monday, 10th September by the group's Chairman, Rob Porter, who is also the President of the Rotary Club of Midsomer Norton and Radstock.

Representatives from Help for Heroes, Water Aid (which Rotary has supported for many years) and the Somerset Trust for Arts and Recreation each gave a brief description of their work and then gave their appreciation of the money given to them. Water Aid and Help for Heroes have received tremendous publicity over the years, but the lesser known S.T.A.R. provides a range of activities to help young people to have opportunities they would not otherwise have. This includes horse riding, learning to play instruments, karate, group activities during school holidays, confidence building and teamwork to name but a few.
