THE rich history of Clutton is now just a click away thanks to a new online archive, packed with more than 60 pages of stories, photographs, maps, and interviews brings the village’s past to life.
Alan Gray, a resident of Maynard Terrace, created the website, which has been put together with the support of villagers and the Clutton History Group.
The project also benefited from a grant from the Chelwood Community Fund.
Chris Border from the history group said: “Much of our material existed only in hard copy. The aim was to create an archive that could be shared widely, so anyone interested in Clutton’s heritage could explore it online.”
The archive paints a vivid picture of village life in Clutton and its surrounding areas, including coal mining, railways, school life, sport and leisure and personal stories from a number of locals.

Although centred on Clutton, the archive already includes some material from neighbouring villages, reflecting its close ties with surrounding areas.
Chris said: “We’re still collecting photos, documents, and personal stories. If anyone has material tucked away in an attic or family album, we’d love to add it to the collection.”
All photographs and documents will be scanned and returned to their owners before being added to the website.
Fellow Clutton resident Grahame Lacey added: “Whether you’re a current resident, a former villager, a pupil working on a project, or a researcher tracing family roots, the Clutton History Archive offers a unique window into the past.
“So pour yourself a cup of tea, search online for ‘Clutton History Archive’ and start exploring the people, places, and stories that have shaped Clutton across the generations.”
