The Midsomer Norton Community Band brought the spirit of Christmas to Tesco on Saturday morning, as they serenaded shoppers with a variety of Christmas carols.

Despite the cold, the band members (with ages ranging from eleven to eighty) created a warm, festive atmosphere with their cheerful renditions including ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’.

“Teenagers get such bad press these days,” said one Christmas shopper. “Isn’t it wonderful to see these youngsters out on a Saturday morning, not only playing musical instruments so beautifully, but also giving up their time to add cheer to the shoppers. Well done to all!”

The band were busking to raise money for much-needed music. “We have just celebrated our first birthday and the band is growing in both size and ability,” explained Amanda Garland, Band Leader. “But they get through music so quickly.

“The money we raise today will fund enough pieces for them to get started on in the New Year.”

Beckie Eschle, Community Champion at Tesco, added: “The Band were amazing. It is so nice to have the opportunity to bring Tesco out into the community and to support a local initiative such as the Midsomer Norton Community Band.”
