The 14th Seedy Saturday, the locally loved event dedicated to gardening, growing and community activities, had plants and seeds galore on offer to keen gardeners attending Timsbury Conygre Hall on Saturday 9 March.

Gardeners from around the area and beyond returned on their annual pilgrimage to the seed swap, taking advantage of the opportunity to talk with stallholders and expert growers. Gardening supplies including a wide range of seeds, potatoes and plants, including heritage and organic varieties were available from Pennard Plants and Beans and Herbs; as well as local produce, equipment, crafts and gifts. Pennard Plants and Beans and Herbs both sponsored 2024’s Seedy Saturday event.

Community displays and expert talks gave visitors a chance to find out about local initiatives, including Green Open Homes from Bath and West Community Energy (BWCE), garden medicinal herbs from Malago Medicinals, the local food-growing project Grow Timsbury, plus the threat to our native pollinators from the Asian Hornet. Cameley and Clutton Toad Patrol were on hand to recruit locals to help with saving the amphibians from being killed on the roads. There was also a kids’ crafts corner, and the kitchen café was the perfect place for chatting with other gardeners over a slice of homemade cake and a cup of tea.

There was also a prize draw at the event, which attendees could enter through the ‘Get Seedy!’ stand. Prizes were a £20 voucher and seeds, £10 voucher and seeds and a £5 voucher. The three winners were P Gray from Almondsbury, H Rushton of High Littleton and M Dawson from Timsbury.

Sam Ross, event organiser commented, “It was a joy to catch up once again with return visitors and to welcome newcomers to our local event bringing seeds to swap for the first time. With more stallholders than ever before, there were also plenty of seeds, plants, local produce and amazing craft items to be purchased, plus three fantastic talks and expert advice.

“I would like to thank all the volunteers and stallholders who continue to make it so successful, plus the generous support from our sponsors and ongoing interest from the local community. We hope that Seedy Saturday will see more seed savers attend next year’s event to be held on Saturday 8 March 2025 at Timsbury Conygre Hall.”
