Local firm and proud sponsor of Ted’s Big Bake Off 2016, BuroHappold Engineering, has launched two competitions, exclusively for schools, to help encourage further support for The Forever Friends Appeal’s popular annual fundraising week for Bath’s Royal United Hospital. The competitions include a ‘Decorate a Cake for Big Ted Competition’, as well as an ‘Engineering futures competition’ with the chance to win a one hour interactive schools workshop, run by engineers from BuroHappold.
2016 is the first year that the local firm have sponsored Ted’s Big Bake Off, and the Appeal are delighted that the company are getting so involved with the fundraising activities.
The first competition, open to children aged seven and under, is inviting pre-school and nursery children to have fun decorating their very own cake stencil. Kids are being encouraged to be colourful and creative in order to be in with the chance of winning a £50 Waterstones Gift Card for themselves, as well as £100 in book vouchers for their pre-school/nursery, courtesy of BuroHappold Engineering. The deadline for entries is Friday, 23rd September, with the winner being announced at the end of the Ted’s Big Bake Off week on Friday, 21st October. The winning child will also receive a visit from popular Appeal mascot, Big Ted, to present the prize. For competition rules, please visit: www.tedsbigbakeoff.com
Two lucky schools are also being offered the chance to win an exclusive one hour interactive schools workshop, run by engineers from BuroHappold. During the workshop, students will learn all about what it means to be an engineer.
BuroHappold engineers will then lead one of two exciting activities in which the pupils will have an opportunity to be an engineer. Simply register to take part in Ted’s Big Bake Off to be in with the chance of winning, and get busy fundraising for the RUH. Winning schools will be announced between 24th October and 21st November 2016. For competition rules, please visit: www.tedsbigbakeoff.com
Duncan Ker-Reid, Associate at BuroHappold, comments: “The interactive workshops will introduce students to how engineers are changing the world and show that the problem-solving at the very heart of engineering can be exciting and fun.”
Corporate Officer for The Forever Friends Appeal, Jo Common, comments: “We love it when our corporate sponsors get involved with our fundraising activities, in addition to financially supporting the event. These two school competitions are a great way of helping to engage local schoolchildren with our fundraising for Ted’s Big Bake Off – it gives them the chance to win some great prizes, whilst having fun raising money for their local hospital.”
The Forever Friends Appeal is the charity for the RUH and Ted’s Big Bake Off is the annual fundraising week for the hospital. Last year, thousands of people across Bath, Somerset and Wiltshire took part in the event and raised over £20,000 to help transform care for patients and their families at the RUH. This year, the event is taking place between Monday, 17th and Friday, 21st October 2016. Along with their well-known ambassadors, “The Fabulous Baker Brothers” of Channel 4 and Hobbs House Bakery fame, the Appeal is now inviting individuals, schools, businesses and community organisations to pre-heat their ovens, prepare their mixing bowls and get baking to support either the RUH Cancer Care Campaign, or a ward or department of their choice at the Hospital. Whether it’s holding a bake sale or hosting a bake-off competition at work, school, or with friends and family, you can help raise some serious dough to help transform care for patients and their families.
