The Wessex Beer and Cider Festival is now in its twelfth year and is to be held at Chilcompton Sports Ground.

Last year, the event raised over £6,000 towards local and international charities.

The Festival is held over two days, on Friday, 31st August and Saturday, 1st September, and features a range of beers and ciders, as well as live music throughout.

Alan Bowhay, Wessex Beer Festival Chairman, said: “The Festival is celebrating its twelth year and we have a Cornish theme, with 24 of the beers coming from Cornwall, from fifteen different brewers, with beers including, from Tintagel – Poldark, a beer like the man himself – dark and lively!

“From Padstow, we have Lobster Tail – a wheat beer with coriander and orange zest, and from Redruth, Beheaded, our strongest ale – brown old ale with a malt aroma and Christmas pudding flavours.

“There are 33 ciders again this year, covering makers from all over the South West, from your more traditional ciders, to Chilli Ginger cider, and a range of fruit ciders and perrys with mango, strawberry and peach, to name but a few.

“The full list of ales and ciders is on our website, along with the programme of music over the weekend.

“We hope to provide visitors with a great atmosphere, with a great range of live music. Yet again, early indications are that there will be a large demand for tickets, so please book early. Ticket allocation will be on a first-come, first-served basis. You’ll also save yourself a couple of quid a ticket by ordering in advance!

“The festival is organised and staffed by unpaid volunteer members of the Rotary Club of Somer Valley, and all profits will go to their charities locally, and internationally.

“We hope you enjoy yourself and will want to join us again next year. Any constructive comments you may have, which will help to make this festival bigger and better year-on-year, would be welcomed.”

Wessex Beer Festival will be joined by local bands, Vox Terrae and Call the Shots on the Friday evening, with The Publicans, Harlem Rhythm Cats and Up Your Brass on Saturday.

There are still barrel sponsorships available to purchase online, and tickets are available from Geoffrey Smith, Midsomer Norton, Phil Day Traditional Family Butcher, Radstock, and Chilcompton Sports Club, or online at: www.wessexbeer festival.co.uk
