Do you love to run? Would you like to see a regular parkrun event come to Midsomer Norton in future? The steering group working to establish a regular parkrun in the town has launched a community challenge to raise funding for a new path in the Town Park – and they need your support.
The Midsomer Norton parkrun Steering Group met with a representative of parkrun nationally, just before Christmas, and whilst the feedback was generally positive, given the work done to link the Greenway to the Park, there is a requirement to construct a link path down the hill in the Town Park between the Greenway and the Wild Meadow before the project can move forward.
As a result, the Midsomer Norton Town Trust has been working hard with volunteers to look at how this could be achieved. The Trust
has identified an organisation called ‘The Conservation Volunteers’ and they can coordinate their volunteers to work with local people to construct the required zig-zag hoggin path, 1.5 metres wide and 90 metres long, at a cost of £6,463.20.
A ‘Community Challenge’ has now been launched to raise the money for this work in order to enable the Park to pass the next inspection and allow the project to move forward.
Paul Myers, Acting Secretary of the Midsomer Norton Town Trust, explains: “Not only will this new path mean we stand a good chance of launching a parkrun in Midsomer Norton, but we will also be building a path for the whole community to enjoy for years to come.”
Can you help with volunteer time or a donation to help build a new path by the end of April 2020?
The challenge is to raise £6,463.20 to build a 90 metre path to zig-zag down the hill in the Town Park from the Greenway to the Wild Meadow.
The cost per metre is £71.81 – can you sponsor a metre or part of a metre?
Once the money has been raised, the team urgently need people to come and help build the path.
