MIDSOMER Norton Town Council has announced the outcome of its latest round of community grant funding, following a meeting of the Finance and Operations Committee held on Monday, July 21.

A total of 11 grant applications were received, requesting a combined sum of £22,420. Members carefully assessed each application against a range of criteria, including compliance with the council’s grant policy, proportionality of funding in relation to community benefit as well as clarity and justification of the specific costs.

They are also assessed on an alignment with the council’s wider remit or existing statutory service, evidence of fundraising efforts or alternative funding sources and the avoidance of ongoing revenue funding commitments.

The committee resolved to approve three grant awards. This included one to Midsomer Norton and Radstock Dial a Ride for £1,000 to support trips for members in celebration of the organisation’s 20th anniversary.

Another £1,000 grant was given to SWAN Transport in order to assist with the continued delivery of their volunteer transport service

Somerset Farmers Market also received £1,000 to contribute towards its running and setup costs.

In addition, members expressed support in principle for the application from SWALLOW Charity for a £1,000 grant to fund a pop-up café at Midsomer Norton Rugby Club.

While several other applications were recognised as worthy causes, they were not successful in this funding round due to limited budget and prioritisation criteria.

Cllr Cheryl Scott, deputy mayor and chair of the finance and operations committee, said: “We are proud to support a range of local organisations that make a real difference to the lives of residents in Midsomer Norton.

“While we were unable to fund every request, we hope the grants awarded will help strengthen community services and initiatives across the town.”

The town council has extended its thanks to all of the grant applicants for their submissions.
