Bath Christmas Market will be extended for an additional week – a move, the Council says, showing its commitment to support stall holders and traders as they recover from the impact of Covid-19.
It is the first time in the market’s twenty-year history that it will run for 25 days. This year it will launch with a residents’ night on November 24th and finish on Sunday, 19th December.
B&NES Council Leader, Councillor Kevin Guy, commented: “The market provides a huge boost, not just to the stall holders but also to our retail, accommodation, hospitality and tourism sectors and this year it will play a critical role in helping business get back on its feet.
“I’ve been talking to businesses and what I am hearing is ‘why does the market finish so soon in the run-up to Christmas?’ This year is an opportunity for us to trial an extension and run it closer to Christmas.”
Bath MP, Wera Hobhouse said: “I am delighted that B&NES Council is holding the Christmas Market for an extended period this year.
“This will give businesses much-needed footfall and an extra boost as we recover from the pandemic.”
Lib Dem Councillor for Kingsmead Ward, Cllr Sue Craig, added: “The Christmas market is such an important event for the city centre. I will be working with the organisers to ensure that any disruption to residents is minimised.
“I’m pleased that the market will open with a preview evening for residents on Wednesday, 24th November”.
