Sunday, 28th July saw ten individuals completing a sponsored bike ride from Midsomer Norton to Weston-super-Mare to raise money for Radstock's Junior Gateway Club.
The group started at 9 a.m. and reached Weston Pier just after 12 noon, as a fundraising exercise for the Gateway Club, which is part of Keynsham and District MENCAP. The club is attended by the stepson of Jason Preston, one of the riders.
The club specialises in activities aimed at children, aged eleven to eighteen, with learning difficulties and is staffed entirely by a group of fantastic and dedicated volunteers. It relies entirely on grants, donations and fundraising as they receive no statutory funding.
Jason said: "My stepson, Matthew, started attending the club this year and we were really impressed by the wide variety of fun activities and opportunities that are available and the caring dedication of all the staff.
"My partner, Karen Washbourne, who helped organise the day, and I wanted to do the bike ride to say thank you for welcoming Matthew into the Radstock Club and to show our appreciation for the hard work that they all do. We are delighted to say that we have raised £1,000 at the last count, thanks to generous sponsorship. We would also like to thank the nine cyclists who gave up their Sunday to join me on the ride."
If anyone would like to make a donation to Radstock Junior Gateway Club, which is a registered charity, details can be found on their website: http://www.keynshammencap.org.uk">www.keynshammencap.org.uk
