Norton Hill and Somervale Schools are organising a first for Midsomer Norton – an Arts Festival, due to take place in June. For some years, the schools have run an annual Arts Trail, with students' artwork displayed in shops and other venues around the town, which has been well supported by local business and the community. The Arts Festival plans to be a much more ambitious affair, involving as many local people and organisations as possible.

The Midsomer Arts Festival will include art, music, performance and film. Artwork will be displayed around the town, indoors and outdoors, as well as beyond the town centre, in the surrounding area and villages.

On Saturday, 27th June, in Midsomer Norton, there will be art activities to participate with and performances alongside a Film Festival in the Town Hall. The town will come alive with art during this week as pieces will be displayed along the riverside and the High Street.

Midsomer Arts Festival organisers are inviting as many local people and organisations as possible to get involved, to make this an exciting event which is representative of the local community. They are looking for individuals, groups and businesses to become involved in the festival and would like anyone who has any ideas, or can offer any help or facilities, or who just wishes to be involved, to contact them.

Are you a musician that would be interested in performing? Are you a business that could offer some equipment or financial assistance? Are you a group or organisation who could make or exhibit work? Do you have some ideas for activities and artwork? Please get in touch if you have any ideas or suggestions.

In a similar way to the Bath pigs and the Wells swans, the team have made large oversize coal shovels, as a reference to the area's mining past and are hoping that local residents and groups will take and decorate these for display around the town.

Anyone who wishes to take part in any aspect of the festival, or has any ideas or suggestions, can contact Martyn Plant at Norton Hill School by telephone on: 01761 412557 or by email at: [email protected]">[email protected]
