Well done to everyone who guessed the Mystery Photograph last week – it was taken of Timsbury House, in you guessed it, Timsbury!

Timsbury House was near the Church in the village, an old manor house built at the end of the 15th Century and became the main house of the Palmer-Sambournes, who owned a lot of the land around this area, including the Conygre pits. It was demolished in 1961 and the site is now where St Mary’s Green and Somerset Folly estates now are.

Well done to: Eric Brain, Frankie Ford, Paul Hancock, Julian Bown, Andrew Thayer, Jeff Parsons, Simon Chard, Les Box and Hannah Selway, Pam Dukes and Val Hawkins, who all guessed correctly!

Val Hawkins told The Journal: “We used to call it the old Manor House and would play in the grounds around the house as children.

“I remember being caught playing there by Jock Simpson, the local Bobby and getting a telling off for trespassing!”

Pam Dukes says: “I think this week’s Mystery Photo is of Timsbury House. Please give a mention, if possible, to Dave Stock’s great quizzes.

“We have fun as a family on WhatsApp to see which family member knows more!”

This week’s Quiz can be found to the left with answers on Page 13. No peeking!

This week’s Mystery Photograph is an appeal by the Museum as they do not know where it was taken or for what event. Can you shed some light on it? They would love to hear from you, so let us know! It was taken possibly in the 1950s and looks like a children’s party – but the Museum wonder if you recognise any of the faces pictured?

Finally, a big thank you to Radstock Museum, who support this feature so brilliantly. If you have any information on this week’s Mystery Photograph and would like a mention, email: [email protected] before 5pm on Monday.
