With the absolute deluge of rain that the country has seen this winter and particularly since the beginning of the year, it has, at times felt like it would never stop. As storm after storm has passed through, this week is supposed to bring brighter weather with it, before low pressure returns. The good news is that we will begin to see lighter evenings in March and spring will soon be here!

Thank you to local reader, Bill Head, who sent us these photographs of flooding in Midsomer Norton – reminding us that things are not all bad here.

He says: “Following the recent storms and the current inclement weather, I was prompted to dig into my archive of photographs.

“These are pictures of Midsomer Norton High Street before the flood release system was put in place.

“I particularly like the sign which features in one of them for the Palladium, which was showing 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea!

“Regrettably the date is unknown, but I would guess at the late 70s.”
