PUPILS from St Mary's Church of England Primary School and Nursery in Writhlington, Radstock have been learning about magnets, forces, rockets, stars and more as part of British Science Week (March 6 to 15).
On Tuesday March 10, they enjoyed a special visit from the Explorer Dome, a travelling, immersive science experience set inside a portable dome.
Using colourful light displays, projections and interactive experiments including rocket ‘launches’ and fascinating magnet demonstrations, the pupils discovered scientific ideas in a fun and engaging way.
Brooklyn in Year 6 said: “It was cool and I learned new things.” Nova, also in Year 6 added: “It felt like we were in a real rocket in space,” while Roman from Year 4 said: “It was fun!”
This was the first time Explorer Dome was experienced by the whole school. Year 6 teacher, Miss Clark said: “It was an incredible experience bringing science to life across our curriculums, especially for years 5 and 6.
“Year 6 were also able to recap their knowledge learnt in the previous year.”
Explorer Dome, a Bristol-based business offers hands-on demonstrations bringing presenter-led, lively, interactive and fun science shows to you to help children, young and old, get hands-on with science. Their shows reach over 80,000 children and adults every year.
Each show is a 45-minute, immersive experience where new ideas, scientific interests and identity can be explored.
From humble beginnings in 1998, the Explorer Dome now offers four domes with a whole host of shows covering science with a team of specialist presenters who travel the whole length of the UK delivering the immersive experiences.
A spokesperson for Explorer Dome said: “We believe that the best way to learn is by doing, that’s why all of our shows are fully interactive, making Explorer Dome shows 100% presenter-led, hands-on and unforgettable.”
