A runner from Bath is taking on the London Marathon, raising funds for the local Leonard Cheshire home that supports her sister.

Donna Tucker, 43, has run half-marathons in the past but will tackle the full 26.2 mile distance for the first time on Sunday, 28 April to help her sister, Karen Gapper, who has multiple sclerosis (MS). Karen lives at Greenhill House, a home for disabled adults in Timsbury run by disability charity, Leonard Cheshire. Named after its war hero founder, the charity supports disabled people in the UK and worldwide.

Donna said, “My motivation for running is my sister. Karen has been at Greenhill for 17 years. One of the best things about the home is the staff – they are so supportive, and that’s what my sister likes the most. If I can help Karen, the other residents and the staff, I will be very happy. It means a lot that they can benefit from this.”

Donna works as a lunchtime supervisor at her children’s school, where she also volunteers her time in the classroom.

A keen runner, Donna is clocking up the miles ahead of the big day.

Donna said, “I didn’t appreciate how much pressure there is training for the London Marathon. I have done plenty of half marathons but nothing this big! The amount of time you have to put in is incredible. However, I am a determined individual and feel confident I can do it. The training is going well at the moment – I am up to 21 miles so far, so I am on target.”
